Nicola LoStracco

Obituary of Nicola LoStracco

LOSTRACCO, Nicola “Nick”.

Passed away at the Guelph General Hospital, after a very brief illness, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the age of 85 years.  Beloved husband of Maria LoStracco (nee Faiella) for 58 years. Loving father of Frank (Sue), Rob (Joanne), Carla MacKintosh (Serge David), and Lisa LoStracco (Marc Blue). Proud grandfather of Laurel, Joel, Nicholas, Tiana, Aidan and Bryce. Survived by his sister-in-law Mary LoStracco and by many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.  Predeceased by his parents Glicerio and Marietta (nee Ventresca) LoStracco, son-in-law Dave MacKintosh, brother Giuseppe “Joe” and sister Concetta (the late Adamo).

Nick worked for over 20 years as a custodian for the Guelph Police Services. Prior to that, he was a foundry worker and foreman at Dayton Walther for over 10 years.  After a hard day’s work, Nick had many hobbies and interests that he pursued and continued for decades and, sometimes, learned a new one along the way.  He thoroughly enjoyed fishing with close friends, gardening, bowling, and making Italian favourites such as sausage, prosciutto, salami, limoncello, wine, and cheese.  His ‘green thumb’ was evident by the vegetable garden that he grew and cared for in his back yard.  He was very proud of growing the biggest tomatoes he had ever seen.  Upon harvest time, Nick filled bushels of tomatoes and peppers, turning them into tomato sauce and roasted peppers.  Work was endless for Nick... everyone who knew him saw a strong, hard-working, talented, funny, and generous man.  No visitor ever left his house empty handed.  He was founding member of the ‘William Street Men’s Club’ and assisted many of his neighbours in various tasks.

Above all, the love he had for his children and grandchildren was paramount.  He was most happy when everyone was together, sharing a meal and sharing stories.  His grandchildren will remember their ‘Nonno’ being present at their soccer, hockey, and baseball games, and track events.  He enjoyed discussing professional sport stats and games with his children and grandchildren.  His children will miss their ‘pop’ planting their vegetable gardens for them.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit at the Guelph General Hospital for their excellent care of Nick.

At Nick’s request a private family funeral service will be held at the Brombal Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph followed by interment at Marymount Cemetery.

In memory of Nick, donations to the Guelph General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Share online tributes and condolences at www.brombal.ca
